Finding Books

Loan Periods are listed below.

The Catalog links to the database listing the material owned by the ACC Library. This includes:

  • 5,000 reference books, on the Library's main floor;
  • 55,000 circulating books, on the Library's upper floor. You may borrow these for four weeks with an ACC student identification card. (Community members may borrow them by obtaining a Community Borrower Card at the Circulation Desk.);
  • 1400 local history books and other material in the Hill Collection.
  • these multimedia items, located on the main floor of the Library:
    - almost 3000 videos and DVDs, almost 300 books on audiocassettes and CDs, more than 600 music CDs. Students may use the media material in the library. Faculty may check them out to use in classes.

    Search for Library material by subject, author or title. When you find an interesting item, write down the Library of Congress call number to locate the item. For a narrated tutorial on searching the ACC Library's catalog, go to Research Guides & Tutorials then click Online Catalog Tutorial.

    WorldCat is a world-wide online catalog listing almost 100 million books and other material owned by libraries around the world. The database displays a list of libraries that own the books.

    NetLibrary is a small collection of about 5000 full-text, electronic books. You may view the chapters of the books online. These books originally appeared in printed form. Books cover a variety of subject and publication dates, from classic novels to recent books on technology and the latest edition of several reference books.

    ACC students, faculty and staff may search WorldCat or NetLibrary databases from off-campus. Just follow screen directions to log in with your campus network username and password.

    Project Gutenberg Project Gutenberg is the oldest producer of free electronic books on the Internet. This collection contains more than 15,000 eBooks, most are older literary works that are in the public domain in the United States. All may be freely downloaded, read and redistributed for non-commercial use.

    Other Libraries links to the online catalogs of local public libraries, Capital District public and college libraries, New York State and SUNY libraries, and the Library of Congress in Washington DC.

    Reference links to websites and ebooks that contain succinct factual information. These include encyclopedias, dictionaries, statistical data and more.
