Fundraising Continues for New ACC Regional Higher Education Center (Jan. 27, 2009) - QUEENSBURY — Fundraising continues for the J. Buckley Bryan, Jr., ACC '87, '94 Regional Higher Education Center on the Adirondack Community College campus.

At the ribbon cutting ceremony on January 22, ACC President Dr. Ronald C. Heacock announced new gifts to the campaign.

"I'm confident we'll meet our fund raising goal so that we can receive the Kresge Challenge Grant of $350,000," said Dr. Heacock.

The Foundation has raised more than 75% of its $2.5-million capital campaign goal. If successful in completing the campaign by December 1, 2009, ACC will be the recipient of an additional $350,000 Challenge Grant from the prestigious, Michigan-based Kresge Foundation. The Kresge gift will be invested for future use in enhancing and expanding the center to meet what is expected to be an ever-increasing demand for bachelor’s and master’s degree programs locally in the years to come.

The ACC Foundation and a committee of community volunteers are asking area businesses, alumni and others interested in the region’s economic and educational future to join together to bring the $2.5-million capital campaign for the new J. Buckley Bryan, Jr. ACC ’87, ’94 Regional Higher Education Center to a successful conclusion.

The facility is devoted exclusively to hosting the growing number of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs offered on the ACC campus by SUNY Plattsburgh, Empire State College and, in the future, other four-year colleges and universities.

“The response to this campaign, especially given today’s challenging economic times, has been outstanding,” said Campaign Chairman Thomas J. Ross, president of Queensbury-based accounting firm Loftus Ross LLP. “We’re entering the home stretch, and hope that we can count on even more individuals and organizations to step forward with gifts that recognize ACC’s pivotal role in improving our regional economy and the lives of the students who learn there.”

Joseph A. Cutshall-King, the college’s vice president for institutional advancement, said he hopes the availability of the additional $350,000 Kresge Challenge Grant provides even greater incentive for potential donors to step forward sooner rather than later.

“The Kresge Foundation has issued a challenge to our community, and I have yet to see this community back down from a challenge,” Mr. Cutshall-King said. “If we invest $2.5 million in this center, we’ll see an immediate 14% return on our investment.”

“From the new Glens Falls Hospital to the new Crandall Public Library, we have been steadily building our community into an even better place to live, work and visit,” Mr. Cutshall-King added. “ACC and this center are the next important building blocks.”

Anyone interested in making a tax-deductible gift to the Community Campaign for the J. Buckley Bryan, Jr. ACC ’87, ’94 Regional Higher Education Center can do so by contacting the ACC Foundation at (518) 743-2243.
