How do I reach the Plattsburgh Web pages?
When do I use the Plattsburgh Feinberg Library’s Web site? When do I use the ACC Library’s Web site?
It depends on where you are, and what information you’re looking for. You have full off-campus access to the college that receives your tuition. See below.
How do I log on to the ACC computers?
On the ACC Web page (http://www.sunyacc.edu), follow these links: Inside ACC > Student Portal > Lookup Account and Password.
Enter your Banner ID (it begins with 700) and your birth date, following the pattern on the screen. Read the Computer Use Policy, click "Accept," and your username/password will appear on the next screen.
If you don't have your Banner account number, go to Plattsburgh's Banner Web page and follow screen directions. Then, use the Lookup Account and Password link described above to find your username/password.
How do I find books?
You may search for books using the online catalog at either ACC or Plattsburgh. It’s probably easiest to check out books from ACC if you visit campus regularly. Search the online catalog on campus or at home (http://library.sunyacc.edu).
To borrow a book at ACC:
- Bachelor’s program students: Use your ACC/Plattsburgh ID card, available from ACC’s Student Services office.
- Master’s program students: show a photo ID at the Circulation Desk to get a community borrower card.
If you search Plattsburgh’s library catalog and find a book you’d like to borrow, you may request that book through Plattsburgh’s interlibrary loan service. Plattsburgh will mail it to your home with return postage. See the interlibrary loan section below.
How do I find articles?
If you are on the ACC campus, you may use the ACC Library’s computers to search any article databases. You may print or e-mail citations or full-text articles at no charge. You cannot reach the ACC databases from home; access is limited to ACC students, faculty and staff. ACC and Plattsburgh subscribe to many of the same article databases.
If you are researching from home, use Plattsburgh's Web site because your tuition pays for your access to those paid services. Go to the Feinberg Library's Web page (http://www.plattsburgh.edu/library) and go to the Library Research Tools section. Choose a database and enter your student username (campus e-mail account) and password, using screen directions.>For full-text article databases only, see the Feinberg Library's Full-text Menu. To get your log-in information, go to the ACC Extension page > Banner Web > Log in to Banner Web and follow screen directions.
To find articles from home, use the Feinberg Library's Find Articles > By Subject link. This leads to scholarly article databases appropriate for college research.
Education students: Note that the Feinberg Library offers excellent research guides. See the Feinberg Library’s Web page (http://www.plattsburgh.edu/library) > Research Guides > By Subject & Class > Education.
How do I use interlibrary loan services?
If you want a book or an article not available at the ACC Library, ask an ACC reference librarian for an interlibrary loan form. We call you when the material arrives. You pick it up at ACC Library’s Circulation Desk.
If you are searching from home, it’s probably easier to use Plattsburgh’s online Interlibrary Loan forms on the Feinberg Library’s Web page. Many articles are
delivered electronically to your Plattsburgh e-mail account within a few
days! When prompted, enter your SUNYCard number and indicate that you are a
Plattsburgh student taking courses at ACC. (If you do not have a SUNYCard, use
the Plattsburgh Banner website to look up your SunyCard Library ID number or
use this Plattsburgh’s ACC Extension site’s page to submit a request for a Plattsburgh ID card: http://web.plattsburgh.edu/academics/onlinelearning/idcard.php.) The
interlibrary loan material will be mailed to your home.
You may keep article
copies. Books are sent with return postage to mail back to Plattsburgh’s
Feinberg Library.
How do I search the World Wide Web?
Many excellent Web sites are recommended by ACC and Plattsburgh librarians:
- Go to Feinberg Library > Subject Database Menu. Choose Education, Criminal Justice, Psychology or another subject and click on the research guide link for top Web sites chosen by the Plattsburgh librarians.
- Go to ACC Library > Research Guides & Tutorials. Choose Education, Criminal Justice, Psychology or another subject and click on the research guide link for quality Web sites chosen by ACC librarians.
- Also on the ACC Library’s Research Guides & Tutorials page, under Tutorials, are Research Steps and How to Search the Web. These are narrated, interactive slide show tutorials.
How do I get personalized help with my research?
Ask a reference librarian for research assistance in several ways:
- Stop by the ACC Library’s reference desk. The library is open 72 hours a week during most of the year, with slightly shortened hours during the summer.
- You may call the ACC Library’s reference desk: 743-2200 ext. 2462.
- For brief questions, you may use the ACC Library’s e-mail reference service: librarian@sunyacc.edu. It is checked once a day, usually in the evening. For e-mail reference service from Plattsburgh’s librarians, click the Ask a Librarian link on the Feinberg Library’s site.
How do I learn more about Plattsburgh’s Distance Learning services?
- On the Feinberg Library’s site (http://www.plattsburgh.edu/library ), under Using the Library, go to
the Students link, and then select either Connecting from Off-campus, Online Students or PSU students at ACC.
- Plattsburgh’s ACC Branch site, http://www.plattsburgh.edu/branchcampus/, lists the latest announcements (under New & Events), access to the Banner Web accounts, forms, course schedules and more. You may also call their office.
