How to Apply

Adirondack Community College (ACC) participates in the Full Opportunity Program of the State University of New York (SUNY). Under this program, Adirondack generally grants admission to students who are high school graduates or recipients of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

Full-time (12 credits or more):

  • Obtain a SUNY Application Viewbook from the ACC Admissions Office, Warren Hall 131, or your high school guidance office.  An on-line version of the SUNY application is also available at the SUNY website http://www.suny.edu/Student/Apply/Apply.cfm.
  • Fill out all appropriate sections, and address the application to the SUNY Application Processing Center, State University Plaza, Albany, NY 12246-0001. Be sure to send an official copy of your high school transcript and/or GED, along with the application fee, with the application.
  • Mail the application before August 1 for the fall semester, and before January 1 for the spring semester.
  • If you are transferring from another college, also send your official transcript from each of the schools you've previously attended directly to the ACC Registrar's Office.

Once the above steps are completed, we'll notify you quickly with our admissions decision.

Note: Additional information in the form of recommendations from counselors and teachers as well as SAT and ACT results should be sent directly to the Admissions Office and can be helpful in terms of advising and placement.

Each full-time applicant's academic achievement, test scores, and/or counselor recommendations will be assessed to determine appropriate placement in one of ACC's required Freshman Experience Programs.

Part-time (less than 12 credits):

  • If you are applying for financial aid, you must apply to the college through SUNY.
  • If you are not seeking financial aid, come directly to ACC and fill out a registration/admission form and certificate of residence at the Registrar's Office.  You will also need to verify that you have a high school diploma or a GED.
  • If you prefer, you can register by mail using the materials in ACC's fall, spring or summer Schedule of Classes. A registration form  (71 kb, requires Acrobat reader) is also available for downloading.

Matriculated Status

A matriculated student is one who has made application to the college through the State University of New York Application Processing Center (SUNY APC), submitted the required documentation, i.e., official high school transcript or proof of a General Education Diploma (GED), and has been formally accepted as a candidate to a degree or certificate program.

Who should Matriculate?

  • All full-time students (12 credits or more).
  • All students who wish to be considered eligible for financial aid.
  • All students who are seeking a degree or certificate.
  • All part-time students who have accrued 18 credits and wish to complete a degree or a certificate program.

Non-matriculated students are not eligible to receive financial aid.
