Historical and Architectural Importance: Previous to the fire of 1864, a wooden building on site housed Vaughn's Dry Goods and the Sheldon Benedict Harness Shop. The new building was occupied by J. K. Farrington's wholesale liquor store. Later, George Lockhart had a grocery store, and in 1871, F. C. Wilson, a grocery. The most famous shop, 1874 - 1910, was Ruben Peck's Drugs. It had the first telephone in town connected to the coal yard. Peck, a native of Glens Falls, b. 1840, sold drugs, medicines and chemicals. After him, there was Fred Peck and Flint's Drugs followed by James Moriarty's Delicatessen.
