Visual Arts Gallery: Sacred Space of Ashtanga Yoga Jan. 25-Feb. 18 (Jan. 07, 2010) -

QUEENSBURY, NY – Adirondack Community College’s Visual Arts Gallery will host “Sacred Space of Ashtanga Yoga,” an exhibition of photographs by Tom Rosenthal, from Jan. 25 through Feb. 18.

A reception for the artist will be held Thursday, Jan. 28, at 6 p.m. in the Gallery. The public is invited.

Rosenthal, a professional photographer and authorized Ashtanga yoga teacher, took photographs of Ashtanga Yoga teachers and students over a five-year period at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Center in Mysore, South India.

“The Center attracts students from throughout the world who come to study in the lineage of Ashtanga Yoga with its master teachers,” Rosenthal says. “Many of the students are yoga teachers themselves who return regularly to India to devote full attention to their personal practice.

“These teachers nurture the lineage by teaching the exact way that they were taught and by opening the doors to peace, compassion and joyful devotion. These dedicated yogis became my models,” he said.

“In these photographs there was no goal, no intended result – om tat sat, om and nothing more.”

The Visual Arts Gallery exhibition and events are free and open to the public. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday, 10 am—3 pm; Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, 5:30—7:30pm; or by appointment by calling the gallery director, Dr. Sheldon Hurst, at 832-7738.
