"I want to be an illustrator. From as far back as I can remember, I have loved comic books; Watchmen and Scott Pilgrim are two of my favorites and were huge influences early on. I was instantly drawn to the idea of telling a story through pictures and started creating my own comic book designs at a young age.

I knew that I would be paying for my entire college education myself, so SUNY Adirondack seemed like the perfect fit for me

It was an affordable option, it was close to my home in Gansevoort and I could pursue my dream of becoming an illustrator through the Media Arts program.

I actually started in Liberal Arts and told my dad that I was pursuing a degree in Psychology, knowing all along that it was not what I really wanted to do. My dad is a contractor so he is used to hands-on work and a reliable trade. He wanted me to either get into construction or the medical field because he wanted me to have stability.

Once I completed my general education courses, I knew I had to tell him that illustration was my passion and that I was switching to Media Arts. I was relieved that he took the news well and supported my decision.

Nick Paigo and Renee O’Brien have been so helpful and such great mentors to me. Nick and I have had long discussions about taking leaps of faith to achieve your goals, and Renee got me involved with Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council (LARAC). I am a member there now and I am in the art show. She also helped me to develop my portfolio for when I transfer on to an art school to pursue my Bachelor’s degree. I am very grateful for their support."
