"I wasn’t the best student in high school; I actually didn’t even graduate. I got my GED and went off to the military. When I returned from the military, I attempted to attend college, but it didn’t last long. I really didn’t know what I wanted to do, and I was more focused on trying to work full-time and financially make ends meet. I just couldn’t make it work.

I have worked a lot of dead-end jobs over the years and finally, when I was helping my sister move back to the area from Colorado, she convinced me to go back to school. She actually signed me up for my classes; She wasn’t going to take no for an answer. If it weren’t for her recognizing my potential and believing in me, I wouldn’t be here.

My sister knew that I had always been interested in history and archaeology, and she had taken a class with Valerie Haskins. She loved it and convinced me to sign up for Professor Haskins classes, as well.

I really didn’t know much of anything about anthropology before that first class, but now, it has been what has kept me coming back every day.

I finish my Liberal Arts degree in the fall and I’m thinking about transferring to the University at Albany to pursue my bachelor’s degree in Archaeology."
