Assignment help and research guides

Librarians are happy to offer assistance in developing research assignments, to ensure that library resources meet your students’ research needs.

For assignment ideas or to have a librarian review an assignment for accuracy and feasibility, contact instruction librarian Joyce Miller (
millerja@sunyacc.edu) or talk to your liaison librarian. We have books with examples of research assignments and other resources you may find helpful.

Please remember to provide the library with copies of your research assignments. Send assignments to Joyce. Copies are kept at the Reference Desk to help librarians prepare for students’ questions. Knowing about assignments also helps us ensure that we have enough material for your students’ needs.

Research Guides and Tutorials:
ACC librarians maintain almost 60 research guides on your assignment topics. The most current versions are available on the Library’s Web page under the Research Guides and Tutorials link.Selected popular research guides are also copied as handouts along the back of the Reference Desk. If you bring a class in for a research session, the librarian will select and provide copies of the most relevant research guides. The research guides list the most useful reference books, article databases and Web sites on specific topics. The guides are updated regularly by the librarians specializing in those subject areas.

Consider linking to the research guides on your faculty Web pages, as well as your Angel or online course pages. For instance, you might want to use the Evaluating Web Information Worksheet in your classes, or require students to complete one for any Web sites they cite in their research assignments. New handouts can be developed for specific assignments as time permits. Contact instruction librarian Joyce Miller for details.

The Library’s Web page also now features narrated, animated tutorials that you may use as an assignment: Research Steps Tutorial and How to Search the Web Tutorial.See this link for the full list:   ACC Library Web page > Research Guides and Tutorials.
