Navigating the College Selection & Admission's Process (Sessions A and E)
This program is designed to help students feel more comfortable with the college selection and admissions process. Information presented will include: selecting colleges, applying to college, visiting the campus, and asking questions that help in making good choices.
VESID's Role in Transitioning to College (Sessions B and F)
Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) is one provider of educational support services to eligible students when they exit high school. During this workshop, VESID personnel will provide participants with an overview of the agency, the application process, and what types of services are available.
Assistive Technology (Session C)
Learn more about the Kurzweil Reader, Inspiration visual mapping software, Dragon Naturally Speaking, and other assistive technology. ACC staff will review and demonstrate some of the Assistive Technology that is available to students.
ACC College Information (Session D )
This session will cover what to expect when you go for a college visit, knowing what colleges are looking for and a look at college from Adirondack Community College's perspective. Come find out everything you always wanted to know about ACC.
Parents Supporting Students as They Transition to College Life (Session G)
Students will encounter many differences in the educational experience as they graduate from high school and enter college. Staff from ACC.s Office of Accessibility Services will discuss some of these differences: how the roles of both students and parents change in this new setting, and ways that parents can support their students during this transition.
Setting Realistic Academic Goals & Advocating for Yourself in College (Session H)
This session will help students understand the demands of higher education and how to make a personal plan for academic success. It will also introduce students to the skills necessary for accessing faculty and college educational resources.
Accessing Accommodative Services Prior to the Student Panel, an overview will be presented of the legal requirements of colleges and universities regarding the provision of services to students with disabilities and what steps students will need to take to make sure that they receive the services for which they are eligible.
