ACC participates in the SUNY Learning Network (SLN), a consortium for
Web-based instruction. ACC offers distance learning courses in a variety of formats::
- A Web-supported course (WS) is typically 100% classroom-based but requires students to work extensively online in a learning management system. Students should reserve the entire block of class time scheduled for this course, although the instructor may sometimes cancel a class meeting. The instructor will provide a complete meeting schedule the first day of class. Students taking these courses should have a home or office computer with an Internet connection or be prepared to do homework in the ACC Student Computing Lab on the Queensbury campus or at the Wilton Center. Microsoft Word is the recommended word processor for these courses.
- A Hybrid course (HY) reduces the amount of weekly classroom time but requires extensive additional work time online in a learning management system. Students should plan to meet in the classroom on the days/times in the printed schedule. Minimally, hybrid courses must meet in the classroom twice a term.
- Fully online courses are asynchronous. All communications and learning activities are done online through a learning management system.
For complete information about ACC’s
online program, visit the ACC Online Web site at:
If you are interested in teaching a web-supported, hybrid, or online course, contact your division chair.
The ANGEL Pilot :
Beginning with Fall 2007, ACC is migrating all its SLN courses to the ANGEL learning management system. Beginning with Spring 2008, every section of every course will get a password-protected ANGEL shell and students will be automatically "enrolled" in their ANGEL sections. Instructors can use their ANGEL shells as a "reference shelf" for materials such as:
- course syllabus
- PDF readings
- PowerPoint presentations (including Impatica "movies")
- Supplemental Web resources
ANGEL also supports:
- multimedia
- podcasting
- wikis
- blogs
- chat, IM, and "Live Office Hours"
