What are Help Files and where do I find them?

Help files are the sets of explanations, definitions, and tutorials that are built in to virtually all newer software applications. They are your first line of defense against the unknown. Use them regularly.

In Windows-based applications, the HELP command is always the last command to the right on the menu bar.

A more extensive set of help options are available by clicking on the question mark in the toolbar.

The Help task pane will then appear.

What is Office Assistant and how do I use it?

Office Assistant is an annoyingly cute paperclip in Microsoft Office applications that allows you to ask complete questions such as “how do I make numbered lists?” or “how do I put formula in Excel cell?” or “how do I terminate Office Assistant?” It also offers a catalog of tips.

To activate Office Assistant, click on Help in the menu bar and select Show the Office Assistant.


How do I get help on campus?

When you can’t find the answers in Help or Office Assistant or your computer appears headed for a warp core breach, contact the ACC Help Desk:
