Role of the Director of Accessibility Services

The goal of the Director and of the Learning Specialist is to ensure that all qualified students are afforded the same opportunities available to the general college population. We achieve this goal by providing our students with reasonable accommodations and a variety of auxiliary aids and support services. The Director of Accessibility Services meets with each student before or during the semester to discuss the procedure for arranging reasonable accommodations based on individual needs.

The range of services provided by the Learning Specialist may include:

  • Consultation with the Director
  • Personal and academic advisement
  • ransitional services
  • Self-Advocacy training
  • Liaison with local, state and federal agencies ie. VESID, CBVH
  • Evaluative tour of the campus for physically challenged students
  • Assistance with arranging for attendant services
  • Special scheduling
  • Liaison with faculty and other college offices
  • Registration and bookstore assistance
  • Parent education regarding the rights and responsibilities of students with disabilities
  • Classroom accommodations and faculty liaison
  • Assistance arranging supplemental academic support.
  • Coordinating accessible academic computer stations and software
  • Academic advisement for part time students with disabilities
  • Assistive technology orientation and training
