Visual Arts Resources
Creativity, as well as critical thought, is a foundation to
learning, and the Visual Arts resources at Adirondack Community
College encourages these to occur.
The Fine Arts area at ACC offers a variety of classes at the
beginning and intermediate levels, such as drawing, life drawing, oil and
water-based painting, printmaking, photography and graphic design. There is
something for everyone, from the beginner to the more advanced students. Art
history courses, from basic Survey to more focused courses, such as 20th
Century Art, complement the studio courses that are offered. Most, if not all,
of the credits accumulated within the arts area will transfer to 4 year
schools, and ACC has articulation agreements with a number of these schools.
Faculty members teaching studio art are practicing artists,
with regional as well as national exposure, and exhibit their work regularly.
The Visual Arts Gallery offers a chance for students to
become exposed to the works of artists from within, as well as outside of, the Lower Adirondack and Capital Regions. This even includes
artists from other countries. Receptions, musical performances, lectures and
formal dialogues provide the opportunity for the sharing of ideas, opinions,
and responses that feed a sense of community, as well as provide a link for the
student to what lies beyond the academic life.
Members of the ACC community are also exposed to the variety
of works in the ACC Art Collection, the foundation of which is the William Bronk Art Collection. These works are on display across the
campus in and around the various buildings.
Exposure to art of diverse ideas and sensibilities is quite
strong at Adirondack
Community College.
