Art history is an academic discipline which explores the
dynamic relationship of art and social context.
Study includes painting, sculpture, architecture, printmaking,
photography and other artistic efforts.
Art history classes are taught through the use of slides and videos in order
to introduce the variety of art forms, the artists and their processes, and the
ideas related to art. Direct contact
with works of art is provided by trips to local and regional museums including
museums in New York City and Boston.
ACC offers a Liberal
Arts and Sciences AA degree (Humanities-Social Science) in which students
can focus on Art history as an emphasis
of study. While this is not a major, it
prepares students for transfer to a four-year college. The following courses assist in a focus on
Art History. Note those courses that are listed as *highly recommended for
establishing a good foundation for transfer.
