Student Outreach System (SOS) FAQ
What does SOS stand for?
SOS stands for Student Outreach System.
Why have I been contacted by the OASIS Center ?
When the OASIS Center staff receives a referral, we then work to contact the student to develop an action plan. Initial contact is via a phone call, with subsequent contacts made by both e-mail and postal mail.
What is an “action plan”?
An action plan is a series of steps a student can take to be more successful in their courses. It may involve study skills help, tutoring, better time management, personal and/or career counseling, and anything else that will benefit the student.
Who can make a referral?
Typically, instructors will submit referrals. However, any employee of the College can refer a student.
Who else is going to know I was referred?
A key component of the program is the communication between the student's instructor, academic advisor, and OASIS Center staff. Therefore, all three areas will be working to support the student as the action plan is followed. No notification is sent to parents or guardians.
What happens now?
Once the action plan has been developed, students are expected to follow the plan. Your advisor, instructor, and the OASIS Center staff will help you chart your progress. If all goes well, you should begin to see positive results immediately.
