ITS NOTIFICATION: Service interruptions
May 5, 2008

The following service interruptions have been scheduled:

1) Angel: SLN will be migrating our Angel database to a new server on May 21, 2008. They will begin work at 12 AM and finish in 24 hours. Initial ACC student accounts will be built on May 16th. We will open summer 2008 courses for preview on Monday, May 19.

2) Acorn: We will begin the migration to the new Acorn server at 10 am on Monday, May 26, 2008. If all goes well, the new server will be fully operational on Wednesday, May 28. Both servers will be off-line during the migration to insure integrity of data.

During this period the following services will be down:

*email - no email will flow in or out of campus. Most email servers are configured to retry sending email for 24-72 hours. We expect that many messages will be delivered when the new server is placed online.

*website - the ACC website (www.sunyacc.edu) will be unavailable.

*printing - network printing will be down. This includes printing to the copiers and copy center.

*file storage - network drives will be unavailable. This includes the G, H and N drives.

All Banner services will be available during the migration. Use the following URLs to access Banner during the migration:

Please PLAN AHEAD: get your printing done early. Copy necessary files from the G/H drives to your C drive.

We apologize for the inconvenience but this is the earliest we can fit this migration into the work schedule.

A Message from Dr Heacock
To the ACC community:

We have recently been informed by the State University of New York that there was a theft of a laptop computer from its information technology consultant that may put the private information of a number of our students at risk. While SUNY does not believe that identity theft was the motive behind the incident and the computer was protected with a strong password to prevent access to its contents, we wanted to inform you of the circumstances and let you know of the precautions we have taken.

The computer that was stolen belonged to an employee of SunGard Higher Education, a software company that has provided information technology services to SUNY and ACC for a number of years. The theft occurred on March 13 and was immediately reported to law enforcement; SUNY officials were notified on April 9. An analysis of backup data revealed that the stolen computer contained stored information from projects at ACC. As of this date, the computer has not been recovered.

ACC and SunGard Higher Education IT staff analyzed the data and verified exactly what information was contained on the computer, including the number and names of those affected. The College has sent letters to the affected students explaining the steps they can take to prevent the possible misuse of the information the laptop contained.

Students seeking more information are asked to contact ACC’s Office of Marketing and Media Relations (743-2245 or 743-2230).
