Scholarships | Loans | Work Study

Scholarships

ACC Academic Excellence Scholarships

Who is eligible: Full-time
Additional criteria: Graduate from a local high school and meet at least 2 of these requirements: first or second in class; top 10% of class; GPA of at least 90; SAT of at least 1200, or ACT of at least 29.
Semester award: full tuition; up to 4 semesters with a 3.2 GPA.
How award is determined: Tuition less TAP, $500/semester minimum for non-filers or students with substantial TAP.
How and when to apply: Guidance counselors nominate eligible students during the spring; students must accept awards by May 1st.

ACC Continuing Student Scholarships

Who is eligible: Full-time, half-time
Additional criteria: Have a GPA of at least 2.5; additional criteria are specifif to each scholarship.
Semester award: $100 minimum, full tuition maximum
How award is determined: Each scholarship carries a pre-determined award.
How and when to apply: Look for "Scholarship Week" advertisements on campus in the spring and complete application for the following fall.

ACC Foundation Scholarships

Who is eligible: Full-time, half-time
Semester award: $500 average
How award is determined: Based on financial need; funds limited.
How and when to apply: Accurately complete a FAFSA after January 1st. Submit additional information as requested by the Financial Aid Office.

Federal Pell Grant

Who is eligible: Full-time, half-time, less than half-time
Semester award: $200 minimum, $2,025 maximum.
How award is determined: Based on 'Federal Methodology' Needs Analysis which examines household size, prior year income and asset information. In cases of recent marital seperation, unemployment, or death of a parent or spouse, your eligibility may be based on other factors. Contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.
How and when to apply: Complete a FAFSA as early as possible after January 1st, but no later than 4 weeks before your last day of attendance. In Addition: *A valid student aid report must be received by ACC before your last day of attendance.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

Who is eligible: Full-time, half-time
Semester award: $400 average, funds limited
How award is determined: Based on 'Federal Methodology' Needs Analysis which examines household size, prior year income and asset information. In cases of recent marital seperation, unemployment, or death of a parent or spouse, your eligibility may be based on other factors. Contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.
How and when to apply: Complete a FAFSA as early as possible after February 1st, but no later than 4 weeks before your last day of attendance. Allow 4 weeks for a reply.

Glens Falls Foundation Arts Scholarship

Who is eligible: Full-time, half-time
Additional criteria: Liberal Arts (Humanities), Music or Communications & Media Arts major in a MUS, ART, THR course; see Nursing Scholarship below for residency and academic requirements.
Semester award: $300 average
How award is determined: Based on financial need; funds limited.
How and when to apply: Accurately complete a FAFSA after January 1st. Submit additional information as requested by the Financial Aid Office.

Glens Falls Foundation Nursing Scholarships

Who is eligible: Full-time, half-time
Additional criteria: Nursing major; Warren, Washington or Saratoga County resident; 2.5 GPA or 78 h.s. GPA or 275 GED score.
Semester award: $300 average.
How award is determined: Based on financial need; funds limited.
How and when to apply: Accurately complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid after January 1st. Submit additional information as requested by the Financial Aid Office.

Hill Scholarship

Who is eligible: Full-time
Additional criteria: Fort Edward graduate.
Semester award: $500; up to 4 semesters with a 2.8 GPA.
How award is determined: See Semester Award.
How and when to apply: Guidance counselors nominate eligible students during the spring; students must accept awards by May 1st.

New York State Aid for Part-Time Study (APTS)

Who is eligible: Half-time
Additional criteria: Must be a legal resident of New York State with a GPA of at least 2.0.
Semester award: $150 minimum, maximum = $1,000.
How award is determined: Based on NYS net taxable income of student and parents.
How and when to apply: Submit APTS application and signed copies of appropriate NYS tax returns to Financial Aid Office as early as possible after April 1st.

New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)

Who is eligible: Full-time, half-time*, based on NYS income. *Only ADA eligible students are eligible for Part-time TAP.
Additional criteria: Must be a legal resident of New York State.
Semester award: $250 minimum; maximum = 100% of tuition
How award is determined: Based on NYS net taxable income of student and parents.
How and when to apply: Complete a FAFSA and Express TAP Application (ETA) no later than May 1st of the academic year. VVTA applicants must also complete a VVTA supplement. PGVTA applicants must also complete a PGVTA supplemnt.

NYS Vietnam Veteran (VVTA)/Persian Gulf Veteran Tuition Award (PGVTA)

Who is eligible: Full-time, half-time, less than half-time
Additional criteria: Must be a NYS resident who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in Indochina between 12/61 and 05/75 or served in the Persian Guld hostilities.
Semester award: $1000 if full-time; $500 or tuition, whichever is less if part-time.
How award is determined: See Semester Award.
How and when to apply: Complete a FAFSA and Express TAP Application (ETA) no later than May 1st of the following year. VVTA applicants must also complete a VVTA supplement. PGVTA applicants must also complete a PGVTA supplemnt.


Loans

Federal Parent Loans for Students (PLUS)

Who is eligible: Full-time, half-time
Additional criteria: May be borrowed by the parent or step-aprent of a student. Credit check to be performed by lender.
Semester award: Cost of Attendance minus Aid = Maximum loan. Variable interest rate with a cap of 9%. Repayment begins 60 days after loan is fully disbursed.
How award is determined: Cost of Attendance minus Aid = PLUS Loan eligibility.
How and when to apply: Submit ACC FA Supplement and loan application from your bank to the Financial Aid Office.

Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan Program

Who is eligible: Full-time, half-time, based on need
Semester award: Annual maximum: $2625 in first year, $3500 after 28 credits accrued. Repayment and variable interest accural begins 6 months after student drops below 6 credits.
How award is determined: Based on 'Federal Methodology' Needs Analysis which examines household size, prior year income and asset information. In cases of recent marital seperation, unemployment, or death of a parent or spouse, your eligibility may be based on other factors. Contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.
How and when to apply: Complete a Free Application of Federal Student Aid as early as possible after February 1st, but no later than 4 weeks before your last day of attendance. Allow 4 weeks for a reply. Submit a Loan Request Form to the Financial Aid Office.

Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan Program

Who is eligible: Full-time, half-time
Semester award: Annual maximum: for a dependent student annual maximum is the same as the subsidized FSL minus any subsidized FSL eligibility. Independent students may be eligible to borrow an additional $4000. Variable interest rate with a cap of 8.25% begins immediately. Repayment of pricipal may be deferred until student drops below 6 credits.
How award is determined: Annual Maximum minus subsidized FSL = unsubsidized FSL, but may not exceed Cost of Attendance minus other Aid. *Annual maximum is based on grade level and dependency status.
How and when to apply: Complete a Free Application of Federal Student Aid as early as possible after February 1st, but no later than 4 weeks before your last day of attendance. Allow 4 weeks for a reply. Submit a Loan Request Form to the Financial Aid Office.


Work Study

Federal Work-Study (FWS)

Who is eligible: Full-time, half-time, based on need
Semester award: $1000 average award.
How award is determined: Based on 'Federal Methodology' Needs Analysis which examines household size, prior year income and asset information. In cases of recent marital seperation, unemployment, or death of a parent or spouse, your eligibility may be based on other factors. Contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.
How and when to apply: Complete a Free Application of Federal Student Aid as early as possible after February 1st, but no later than 4 weeks before your last day of attendance. Allow 4 weeks for a reply.
