General Information

ACC Library's Collection:
The Library offers approximately 5,000 reference books, 55,000 circulating books, 1500 videos, and dozens of audiocassettes, DVDs and CDs. Click on
Finding Books for more information and for the online catalog.

The Library subscribes to almost 400 magazines, scholarly journals and newspapers, located on the main floor. Thousands of additional periodicals are available electronically through the Library's many subscription article databases. Click on Finding Articles for more information.

The Hill Collection contains 1,400 historical books and other items about this region, dating from the mid-18th century to the present, donated by the William Hart Hill family. The Hill Collection is located in a room near the Periodicals area. See the Hill Collection for details.

Research Assistance:
Reference librarians are available to assist students, faculty and staff with research questions during library hours. No appointment is needed. Just stop by the reference desk, call the Library (743-2260, or ext. 462 on campus) or e-mail librarian@sunyacc.edu (answered daily when Library is open).

ACC's reference librarians have created research handouts on many subjects. These guides recommend specific reference books, article databases and Web sites. They are available along the back of the Reference Desk, and under Research Guides and Tutorials .

Librarians teach information literacy skills informally at the Reference Desk as well as in a classroom setting. See the Information Literacy section on the Faculty Information link.

Library Computers:
More than a dozen computers near the Reference Desk have full access to the Web for research. All are connected to a printer; printouts are doubled-sided. There is currently no charge for printing.

Use of the computers implies knowledge and acceptance of the ACC Computer Use Policy

Most Library computers have Microsoft Word. The Student Computing area, on the ground floor of the Scoville Learning Center, has a 100-computer open lab with a wider variety of software.

Reserve Materials:
Instructors may put additional reading material for their classes on reserve at the Library's Circulation Desk. Reserve items must be used in the Library. For more information on placing material on reserve, see the Faculty Information link on the Library's Web page.

Community use:
Community residents are invited to use the Library's resources. They may borrow circulating books by obtaining a Community Borrower Card at the Circulation Desk.

Group Study Rooms:
Students may reserve these rooms for two hours; sign up at the Circulation Desk (743-2260).

Quiet Study Space:
The upper level of the Library is designated as a quiet study area.

Photocopiers:
Two are located in the Copier Room near the Reference area. Copies are 10¢ per page.

Interlibrary loan:
The Library can obtain material from other libraries for ACC students, faculty and staff. Inquire at the Reference Desk.

Library Research Methods course:
The ACC Library Division offers a one-credit course, LIB187: Library Research Methods, an introduction to the library research process.
