In the academic year, you will work closely with your Upward Bound Assessment Specialist to develop a Personal Action Plan which will require your participation in some or all of the services listed below.
Tutoring and Mentoring: Tutoring services are available to all Upward Bound participants and are geared to high school course content and skills development. You may also be assigned to a mentor that will assist in the attainment of your academic and career goals.
Academic and Career Counseling: Your Upward Bound Assessment Specialist works with you and your high school guidance counselor to help guide you toward your academic and career goals.
Personal Advisement: Upward Bound staff will assist you to empower yourself to overcome barriers that may impede academic success.
Cultural Events: You will experience activities designed to broaden your knowledge of racial and cultural differences in society and your appreciation of the arts.
Monitoring Progress: You will meet regularly with your Upward Bound Assessment Specialist, who will work with you, your family, your teachers, and your high school guidance counselor to monitor and advise you on your academic progress.
ACT/SAT Preparation: Test preparation workshops are available to high school juniors and seniors.
Financial Aid Advising: Workshops will be available to students and families who are preparing for application to post-secondary institutions. We will help you to identify scholarship opportunities and complete federal and state financial aid forms.
Stipends: Students who fully participate in all required Upward Bound services and programs, will receive monthly stipends throughout the academic year and summer.
Field Trips and Workshops: You will participate in educational and recreational field trips, college visits, and group workshops.
