Application Procedures
  1. Complete a  Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or file the Renewal FAFSA. Both applications are available on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

    • About 4 weeks later (2 if filed electronically) you will receive your Student Aid Report (SAR). ACC will also receive the SAR electronically as long as ACC was listed as one of your college choices. Assuming your SAR could be fully processed by the federal processor, ACC will be able to determine your eligibility for the federal, atate and ACC awards.
    • If you wish to borrow a federal Stafford loan, you must submit a separate Loan Request form to the Financial Aid Office.

  2. To apply for the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) you must first file a FAFSA and then an Express TAP Application (ETA). If you file FASSA on the web, a message will appear on the confirmation page directing you to ETA on the web. Otherwise, NYSHESC will prepare and mail an individualized ETA to all NYS residents who have listed at least one NYS school on the FAFSA. Complete and return the ETA if you will be enrolled full-time. You will receive a determination of your TAP eligibility from NYSHESC. If you misplace your ETA, you may request another one by telephone (1-888-697-4372) or web (http://www.hesc.com)

  3. Complete an Aid for Part-Time Study (APTS) application if you will be enrolled in 6-11 credits per semester and submit to the Financial Aid Office with 2 signed copies of your prior-year New York State tax returns so we can determine your eligibility for APTS.

  4. Additional information may be required of you if you are selected for verification. You will be notified of what documents are needed by the Financial Aid Office. You will be required to complete the verification process no later than 90 days after your last day of enrollment. Failure to meet the established deadline will mean forfeiture of all federal aid eligibility for the award year. Should your federal aid application need corrections, the Financial Aid Office will process them electronically. Should you be selected for verification after having been awarded federal aid, your aid will become null and void until the verification process is completed.

Plan to cover your own non-college expenses (transportation, housing, childcare, etc.) during the first several weeks of classes. Financial aid refund checks are generally available after the eighth week of classes each semester. (e.g., late November for fall and early April for spring)
