The ACC Library subscribes to more than 300 magazines,
scholarly journals and newspapers. You may browse through them on the main
floor of the library. Thousands of additional periodicals are available
full-text through article databases.
To find articles by subject, use an article database. ACC
Library subscribes to dozens of databases, offering article citations,
abstracts (article summaries) and sometimes, the entire article full-text.
Some databases are electronic versions of reference books.
General Databases
link to large databases listing millions of articles on a wide variety of
subjects. Many offer some full-text articles. These databases are a good place
to start most research.
Subject Databases
link to databases covering specific areas: health, literature, business,
science, etc.
When searching these databases, use the Advanced Search mode
to make your search more precise. To find variant endings to your search terms,
consider truncating, or adding a wildcard ending, with an asterisk (*):
searching for bird* finds citations with bird, birds, birding,
etc. Check the databases’ Help screens for more time-saving search tips.
ACC students, faculty and staff may search these databases
from off-campus. Just follow screen directions to log in with your campus
network username and password.
Periodicals at ACC
links to an alphabetical list of ACC Library's subscriptions. It also lists
what dates of each periodical the ACC Library owns, and in what format: paper,
microfilm or microfiche.
- Library users may photocopy articles in paper
format, and print microform articles on the reader/printers, at 10 cents a copy.
- A librarian can check if specific periodical
titles are available full-text in a database, or available at other libraries.
