Reported On-Campus Crimes
A copy of the Adirondack Community College campus crime statistics as reported annually to the U.S. Department of Education will be provided upon request by the Director of Facilities. Please direct all such inquiries to the Office of Facilities and Maintenance at 743-2246. Information can also be obtained from the U.S. Department of Education website at http://ope.ed.gov/security/.

DEFINITIONS OF THE ABOVE CRIMINAL ACTIONS Murder - the willful killing of one human being by another. Forcible Sex - any sexual act directed against another person, forcibly and/or against that person’s will, or where the victim is incapable of giving consent, and includes forcible rape, forcible sodomy, sexual assault with an object, and forcible fondling. Nonforcible Sex - acts of unlawful, nonforcible sexual intercourse including incest and statutory rape. Depending on the circumstances, acquaintance rape could be in either category. Robbery - the taking, or attempting to take, anything of value under confrontational circumstances from the control, custody, or care of another person or persons by force or violence and/or by putting the victim in fear of immediate harm. Aggravated Assault - an unlawful attack by one person upon another wherein the offender displays or uses a weapon in a threatening manner, or the victim suffers obvious severe or aggravated bodily injury involving apparent broken bones, loss of teeth, possible internal injury, severe laceration, or loss of consciousness. Burglary - the unlawful entry into a building or other structure with the intent to commit a felony or a theft. Motor Vehicle Theft - the theft or attempted theft of a motor vehicle. Liquor Law Violations - violations of laws or ordinances prohibiting the manufacture, sale, purchase, transportation, possession or use of alcoholic beverages. Drug Abuse Violations - violations of laws prohibiting the production, distribution, and/or use of certain controlled substances and the equipment or devices utilized in their preparation and/or use. Weapons Possessions - violations of laws or ordinances prohibiting the manufacture, sale, purchase, transportation, possession, concealment, or use of firearms, cutting instruments, explosives, incendiary devices, or other deadly weapons. Bias Crimes - refer to separate page Preventive Measures Although ACC is fortunate to have been able to maintain a very safe environment over the years, no one should be lulled into a false sense of security. Here are several common sense measures to take at all times: o register your vehicle on campus o lock all valuables in the trunk of your car o lock your car doors and secure windows o park in well-lit areas at night o inspect the area around your vehicle, including the back seat o have your keys ready o avoid strangers and hitch-hikers o walk with friends o don’t leave books and other valuables unattended o always lock your bicycle o don’t flash large amounts of cash or credit cards o report any suspicious activity to security personnel |
