T’ai Chi Chih (TCC) is a series of 19 simple movements and one pose that are easy to learn and do. The movements are slow, gentle, and can easily be done by anyone regardless of age or physical condition. They can be done in a few feet of space or even sitting! They involve no physical contact, but rather emphasize self-awareness, well-being, and energy flow.

The circular movements, when practiced regularly, promote health in every part of the body by circulating and balancing the Chi (the vital force or intrinsic energy of our bodies). People have reported many physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual benefits of regular TCC practice—among them better balance, increased flexibility, weight control, relief from chronic back pain, blood pressure control, release of stress, increased endurance, peace of mind, relief from chronic health problems, increased intuitiveness and creativity. A study by Deborah R. Young, an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine found that the light activity involved in T’ai Chi practice provided the body with the same benefits as moderately intense brisk walks. Recent studies at the U.S. National Institute of Health at the University of CA reported that regular practice of TCC boosts the immune system.

This six-week course will provide participants with the opportunity to learn a twenty-minute routine and understand the body as an energy system.

Donna BassettNo. 22050W
Tuition: $30.002 sessions
Thursdays, May 8 & May 15, 2008, 6:30pm-8:30pm

Chakras are the centers of force in our bodies through which we receive, transmit, and process life energies. They are the network through which body, mind, and spirit interact as one holistic system. In this program, you will learn about the seven major chakras, how they affect your life and how to keep them balanced with easy to learn, hands-on healing exercises and wellness techniques that can be done almost any time without special equipment or a lot of time. This information will help you begin to develop an awareness of how your mind/body systems work to keep you energized, healthy, and motivated.
