Program Areas and Program Coordinators

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT TRAINING

ACC takes seriously its role in the continuing education of our local business and industry population and consequently plays an integral part in the economic development of our region. Dialogue with the business community enables us to be at the forefront in presenting programs that are timely and technologically on the cutting edge. Each semester a wide range of programs is offered in the areas of management, professional development, small business workshops, technical training, and computer training.

Customized/Contract Course Training

The ACC Center frequently designs and customizes programs for companies. These programs are designed in conjunction with company personnel and qualified and experienced consultants or trainers to ensure the training goals of the company are met. The courses are carefully monitored to maintain ACC's high quality of educational presentation and are taught either on campus or on-site at the company. Some of the companies and agencies for whom company specific training has been conducted are: The Fort Miller Co.; Finch, Pruyn and Co., Inc.; SCA Tissue North America; Glens Falls Hospital; Quad/Graphics; GL&V; Boston Scientific; AngioDynamics; The Sagamore Resort; Glens Falls Lehigh Cement; Hudson Headwaters; Fort Hudson Health Services; Hudson Mohawk Health Education Center; Wesley Health Care Center; Native Textiles; Travelers Insurance; State Farm Insurance; The Saratoga Associates; and the Washington County Department of Social Services.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS

Often it is through our Community Outreach courses that individuals are introduced to ACC's campus and community. Staff members work with various community groups and government agencies, as well as professional, educational, and civic organizations to provide a wide selection of courses that reflect the needs and desires of our very diverse community population. These programs are designed for adults who want to improve their career skills, enrich their personal lives, or just have fun. A sampling includes courses offered on fitness, the arts, creative writing, and local history. It's not unusual for people who take our Community Outreach Programming courses to become repeat students who take advantage of the lifelong learning opportunities we provide on a continuing basis.

Summer Enrichment Program for Children

Each summer for three weeks in July, the ACC campus comes alive in a very unique way. Hundreds of our communities' children come to ACC in a program designed to supplement their traditional classroom education and to provide them with a fun-filled college experience. These youngsters come to ACC to expand their minds in a variety of different ways and the courses offered give them opportunities to explore new subject matter, learn new hobbies, or express and enrich their creative and artistic abilities.

Senior Lecture Series

Beginning in the spring of 2000, the ACC Center has offered a very popular daytime program called the Senior Lecture Series. Each semester, on four consecutive Tuesdays, three presenters share their expertise with the lecture series audience. The list of topics is too lengthy to include, however, some examples are: the rise of fascism, Emily Dickinson, evolution, forensics, biblical archeology, and many, many more. Presenters are carefully selected and only those who are experts in their fields are asked to present. They include ACC faculty members as well as community members. Each day the program begins at 10:00am. There are two lectures each morning, followed by lunch, and one afternoon lecture which concludes the program. Each semester the program has sold out with close to 150 individuals attending.

Special Events

In addition to our two program departments, the ACC Center also works on a large variety of special projects. These programs serve a variety of groups within the ACC community through teleconferences, conferences, and seminars. All of the projects are distinctive in that they involve partnerships and collaborate efforts with one or more community and/or state entities.

The Hospice Foundation of America sponsors a teleconference each spring on the subject of grief and is presented in cooperation with Hospice organizations in Warren and Washington Counties.

Especially directed at appointed and elected officials, numerous conferences and teleconferences are co-sponsored with: Washington County Department of Planning and Community Development; Warren County Department of Planning and Community Development; Lake George Park Commission; Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District; New York State Office of the Comptroller; and the New York State Department of State.

In addition, the Youth Conference, presented by the Warren County Youth Bureau and Washington County Youth Bureau and co-sponsored by ACC, has been offered for many years.
