Since its inception, the primary purpose of the SUNY Adirondack Foundation has been to provide scholarship assistance to SUNY Adirondack students.
There are three categories of scholarship provided by the Foundation to both new and returning students:
I. SUNY Adirondack FOUNDATION SPONSORED SCHOLARSHIPS
These are supported by income generated from the Foundation’s endowment, fund raising events and the annual giving campaign. These scholarships are awarded to new students each year until successful completion of a degree, as the students maintain their eligibility. There are currently three types of scholarships funded by the Foundation:
II. SCHOLARSHIPS SPONSORED BY OTHER FOUNDATIONS AND/OR TRUSTS
Annually, these provide a predetermined level of financial support. There are currently four scholarships which fall within this category and are awarded to both incoming and returning students:
Glens Falls Foundation Nursing and Arts Scholarships
William and Elsie Hill Scholarship
The William & Elsie Hill Returning Adult Student Scholarship
Evelyn and Paul Robinson Foundation Scholarships
III. SUNY Adirondack NAMED SCHOLARSHIPS
Established by area individuals, companies and organizations, and typically bear the name of the company, organization, or the individual in whose memory the scholarship was named. For the most part, these scholarships are available only to students already attending SUNY Adirondack as opposed to new, first time students. The competitive application process takes place in the spring semester of the student's first year.
Applications are evaluated annually in the spring for current SUNY Adirondack students who have a minimum 2.5 GPA in 12 completed credits at SUNY Adirondack.
The Impact of Scholarships on Students' Lives:
"I cannot explain in words how much this scholarship will help me achieve academic success and give me peace of mind from the financial stress associated with being a full time adult student with many responsibilities."
It is with genuine gratitude that I write this note of thanks for the Academic Excellence Scholarship and the opportunity to attend SUNY Adirondack for a second year. My first year at SUNY Adirondack surpassed my expectations - my professors and classes intrigued and challenged me, and I worked hard to achieve...I am proud to say I attend SUNY Adirondack, and I greatly thank you for the opportunity to do so."
