When the J. Buckley Bryan, Jr. ACC ’87, ’94 Regional Higher Education Center opened in January 2009, the door was opened for more students than ever before to earn advanced degrees right here on the Adirondack Community College campus.

The new center is devoted exclusively to hosting the growing number of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs offered at ACC by SUNY Plattsburgh, Empire State College and, in the future, other four-year colleges and universities. The center is the first of its kind in the State University of New York system, and offers a wealth of benefits to students, area businesses and our regional economy.

Students, Businesses and Our Entire Region Will Benefit

Students who might otherwise leave our region for a four-year college now have a greater opportunity to earn their degrees — and hopefully begin their careers — right here in our area.

The many adult students who now travel to Albany, Vermont or beyond to earn advanced degrees — many while working full-time and/or raising a family — will now find it more convenient and affordable to achieve their academic and career goals.

ACC’s primary mission of providing quality two-year degree programs will be strengthened as more students opt to begin their college careers at ACC, knowing they’ll have the option of continuing on to a four-year degree on the same campus.

An Investment in Education Is
An Investment in Our Economy

Adirondack Community College and our regional business community have long worked together for the benefit of local employers, employees and our overall economic health.

The Regional Higher Education Center will be a catalyst for even greater economic opportunity across the region by:

  • Creating a more highly-educated and skilled workforce to help existing employers grow, and to attract new employers from the nanotechnology industry and other business sectors
  • Making it more convenient and affordable for area businesses to provide advanced educational opportunities to their employees
  • Encouraging greater numbers of educated and talented people to remain in our region during and after their academic careers — keeping their brain power and buying power here; growing existing businesses; starting new companies and creating new jobs.

A recent report by the U. S. Census Bureau found that, on average, people who go on to earn a bachelor’s degree increase their earnings more than 35% per year over those with associate’s degrees.
