J. Buckley Bryan, Jr. Donates $30K to Help Meet Kresge Foundation Challenge

Bolton Landing philanthropist J. Buckley Bryan, Jr. has contributed an additional $30,000 to help Adirondack Community College meet its Kresge Foundation Challenge Grant goal for the J. Buckley Bryan, Jr. ACC ’87, ’94 Regional Higher Education Center.

The Challenge Grant requires the college to meet its goal of $2.5 million by Dec. 1, 2009. If the college succeeds in meeting the goal, then Kresge will award the grant amount. The grant comes at a crucial time in the college’s capital campaign to raise $7.5 million for the new center for bachelor's and master's degrees on the ACC campus.

Mr. Bryan, a graduate of ACC, said “I want my gift to inspire other alumni to give to our college.” Mr. Bryan had already donated $1.5 million for the facility. He said, “I was my way of thanking the college for all it did for me.” The building has been named for MR. Bryan.

After earning his associate’s degree from ACC, Mr. Bryan earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY Plattsburgh on the ACC campus. At that time, those courses were offered in ACC classrooms rented by SUNY Plattsburgh. Now the J. Buckley Bryan, Jr. ACC ’87, ’94 Regional Higher Education Center will provide a separate facility on the ACC campus dedicated to advanced degrees being offered by SUNY Plattsburgh, Empire State College and other partnering colleges. It is the first facility of its kind in the State University of New York system.

Like Mr. Bryan, others will now be able to stay on campus to fulfill their dreams.
