The Upward Bound Program at Adirondack Community College


Upward Bound summer orientation on Lake George NY		 What is Upward Bound?
TRiO Upward Bound is a student-centered program designed to generate and promote the skills and motivation necessary to graduate from high school, enroll and succeed in college. Upward Bound serves rising 8th graders through 12th graders in our target school districts through a summer program on the ACC campus, and during the academic year, in area high schools.

Since 1999, the Upward Bound Program hosted by Adirondack Community College serving Fort Edward, Fort Ann, Glens Falls, Hudson Falls and South Glens Falls school districts has:

  • Annually assisted 50 high school students to achieve their goal of pursuing a college education
  • Maintained an average student retention rate of 90%
  • Provided primarily one-on-one and small group programming
  • Increased student enrollment in post-secondary education


What do Upward Bound students do?


Each year Upward Bound students can:

  • Visit colleges and universities
  • Participate in cultural enrichment activities
  • Engage in volunteer and community service projects
  • Benefit from a variety of academic services


How does Upward Bound prepare me for College?


During the Academic Year, starting in October and ending in May, students meet with an Upward Bound advisor in their local high schools on a bi-weekly basis. Each meeting students can discuss:

  • Academic Skill Development
  • College Exploration
  • Career Awareness
  • Personal Development


During the Summer Program, which begins June 30th and ends August 11th, Upward Bound students will participate in an exciting and adventurous opportunity to immerse themselves in a college community.

Each Summer Program students will:

  • Participate in academic and enrichment based class offerings
  • Travel to colleges and universities for day and overnight trips
  • Engage in leadership development
  • Volunteer for campus and community activities
