Coronavirus refunds and credits

Credit/Refund Policy for Room and Board Charges for the Spring 2020 semester    

SUNY Adirondack Residential students who moved out of the Residence Hall due to the COVID-19 outbreak during the Spring 2020 semester may qualify for a credit/refund of room and board charges paid. 

In accordance with SUNY policy and New York State tax regulation, SUNY Adirondack will pro-rate residential student room and board charges with an effective date of 03/13/2020, or the date that the student moved out of the Residence Hall for students who returned to the Residence Hall after Spring Break.

All refunds and credits will be minus any charges for damage, cleaning, conduct violations or improper check-out as well as any outstanding balances to SUNY Adirondack, the Faculty Student Association or the Adirondack Housing Association.  NOTE: If the student’s charges for the Spring 2020 semester exceed the pro-rated refund/credit, no refund/credit will be issued.

Students Returning for the Fall 2020 semester

Students returning for the Fall 2020 semester, will receive the pro-rated credit for room and board charges on their Fall 2020 student account.  SUNY Adirondack understands that some students and families may need access to this credit sooner than Fall 2020.  In this case, students can request a refund of room and board charges instead of a credit to the Fall 2020 account by emailing Kate O’Sick, Dean for Student Affairs, at osickk@sunyacc.edu.

Credits 

Credits will be issued on the student’s Fall 2020 student account in the amount of the refund for the Spring 2020 semester.  This credit can significantly reduce the Fall 2020 student account and reduce student need for Student Loans and/or use of other financial aid or outside resources.

Students Pending Graduation in the Spring 2020 Semester

Students pending graduation in the Spring 2020 semester will receive the pro-rated refund for room and board charges applied to their account this semester.

Refunds

Refunds will begin to be issued to qualifying students starting the week of April 27, 2020.

Refunds will be issued in two ways:  

1.      For students signed up for direct deposit who will receive a refund, it will be deposited into the student’s designated bank account within 7-10 business days.

TIP: Sign up for direct deposit through nelnet.  Log into your Self-Service Banner account, and go to the ‘Student’ tab, then select ‘Student Account’ from the list, and then select ‘Set-Up Payment Plan’ from the list.  This will re-direct you to the nelnet web portal.  After setting up your profile, you can select ‘Manage Refunds’ in your nelnet account to set-up a direct deposit.

2.     For students not signed up for direct deposit, a check will be mailed to the permanent address listed in the Banner System within 14-21 business days.

How to qualify for either a credit or refund

In order to qualify for refunds or credits, students must arrange for retrieval of belongings from their Residence Hall rooms.  Residence Life will email an “Intent to Return for Fall 2020” web form on 04/15/2020 (Link to Form).  Please complete this form as soon as possible.   Once the “Intent to Return for Fall 2020” form is received, credits/refunds will be communicated individually to students within 7 business days. In order to ensure health and safety of students, families, staff and current residents of the building, SUNY Adirondack is offering three options for retrieval of belongings:

Curbside Pickup

SUNY Adirondack Staff will box your belongings on your behalf and meet you at your car at your scheduled time. 

Pack and Store

This option is only for residents who plan on returning for the Fall 2020 semester. SUNY Adirondack Staff will box your belongings on your behalf and securely store them until move in for the Fall semester.

Pack and Ship

A member of SUNY Adirondack Staff will pack your belongings and ship them to the address you provide.  There are limits on what items can be shipped.  Please contact Residence Life at reslife@sunyacc.edu for specifics on this option.
