"I came here from Romania 6 years ago. I was in my second year of law school when I decided to get a work visa and travel to the United States for a

summer. My family is in law; my aunt is a prosecutor and I felt like I was her protégé. I never really thought about anything else. I went to college because t hat is just what you do, and I studied law because that was all I knew at the time. It’s funny how life works; doors can open unexpectedly and take you in a completely differ ent direction than you thought you would be headed. I ended up in Lake George and worked for a summer at the Steamboa t Company. It was nice to be away from family expectations and to be providing fo r myself. I enjoyed it so much that before I knew it, 6 months turned into 6 years!

When I decided to stay for good, I promised my family and myself that I would go back to school to earn my degree. I thought about picking up law again or getting into a related field. At the time, I was working for the Lake George Baking Company and little by little I was becoming more involved with weddings. I was getting a handle on customer servi ce and was interacting with the brides and grooms more. I started to think that the hospitality industry might be a good fit for me.

I started at SUNY Adirondack in the fall of 2015, and I had my first class with Professor Kelli Hatin. Her energy and her enthusiasm for the industry made me confident that I was in the right place.

I am serving and bartending to pay my way through school and I plan to graduate next spring. I feel like I need to be in event planning. I would love to work for a place like the Inn at Erlowest; they have the most beautiful weddings there and I would love to be able to plan events like that."
