This course will introduce the essential skills used by mediators to bring people in opposition to mutual understanding and resolution. Business leaders, HR and human service professionals, lawyers, community members and all others will gain valuable skills that are highly effective in helping people communicate well and work through challenging situations — in the workplace, in the neighborhood and/or in the family. The process of mediation and skills such as listening, empathizing, reframing and problem solving will be discussed, and participants will walk away with practical skills they can put to immediate use.
Mediation Matters is a Community Dispute Resolution Center providing mediation, training, facilitation and conflict resolution services serving Warren, Washington, Saratoga, Schenectady, Albany, and Rensselaer counties, and has been funded in part by the New York State Office of Court Administration since 1981. This multi-faceted organization of professionals is dedicated to encouraging a culture of peace by empowering people to manage and resolve conflict in a constructive way, providing effective skills and processes and increasing the capability for non-adversarial and self-determined problem solving within the community.

BASIC OPERATIONS FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS

Participants in this 20-session course will experience a broad introduction and overview of wastewater treatment operations, excluding activated sludge (a separate course typically offered in the spring). After a brief review of NYS rules and regulations applicable to alcohol service, course will offer participants an opportunity to increase their familiarity with a wider variety of beers, mixed drinks, wines, trending cocktails and menu development. This hands-on course will offer participants significant time behind the bar rehearsing skills and opportunities to practice teamwork, recall of orders and elements of "style." Synthesis & Sound Design for Musicians

What is Balancé Barre? A trendy, new and effective group fitness class like no other! Barre-based classes use a combination of postures inspired by ballet and other disciplines like yoga and Pilates. The ballet barre, or chairs, are used as props to balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training. Isometric training is holding your body still while you contract a specific set of muscles combined with high reps of small range-of-motion movements. You will feel the burn! The major benefits of barre are improved posture, muscle definition, weight loss, increased flexibility and reduced stress. You will notice improved balance and stability as well. Everyone will leave class feeling challenged and invigorated!
You'll start with a warm-up and sequence of upper-body exercises, which include free weights, push-ups, planks and other moves to target the biceps, triceps, chest and back muscles. Next, you'll use the ballet barre (or chair) and your own bodyweight for resistance to focus on the legs, thighs and seat muscles. Your core will be engaged the entire class and then targeted at the end with a series of mat-based abdominal exercises. For the cool down, you'll go through a series of stretches to increase flexibility and allow your muscles to recover.

Couch to 5K

Get off the couch and get on the road with our Couch to 5K program for beginners. Your coach will ease you into the adrenaline pumping sport of running by starting you out with an interval walking and jogging routine. Over the 10-week program, you will be amazed at your progress.
A quarter-mile time will be taken at the first and last class so that you can see your progress. Your training will prepare you to successfully complete a local 5K race. Participants are responsible for their race registration fees (5K participation is optional, but encouraged because it is so much fun!).

An Ayurvedic Guide to Healthy Living

Tour a lavender farm here in the North Country. Join Diane and David Allen, veteran lavender farmers, to talk about planting conditions and planting requirements. We’ll cover the life cycle of lavender from propagation and care of starts to pruning, harvest and maintenance of mature plants. Challenges of growing lavender in the North Country will be discussed in detail as will what varieties are grown for what products including culinary uses such as baking and savory preparations. Ulysses S. Grant Cottage Tour NEW!

In this Adirondack Cottage, Gen. Ulysses S. Grant died of throat cancer on July 23, 1885. He had arrived at the cottage from New York City on June 16, 1885, with his family, servants and doctors; he was able to complete his memoirs in the short time he had left.
Today, the cottage remains essentially the same as during the Grant family's stay. You will tour the downstairs of the cottage, viewing the original furnishings, decorations, and personal items belonging to Grant, including the bed where he died and floral arrangements that remain from Grant's funeral.

Course Cancellations
When it is necessary to cancel a class, we try to provide a minimum of two days’ notice before the scheduled start of the class. Full tuition and fees will be refunded for any classes cancelled by SUNY Adirondack Continuing Education.
Third Party/Employer-Paid Tuition
Please mail or fax a letter to the Office of Continuing Education on company letterhead authorizing SUNY Adirondack to bill the company. This letter must be included with the registration material.
CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS: CEUs
The Office of Continuing Education at SUNY Adirondack offers CEUs to those who have completed designated courses. The CEU is a uniform measurement of individual participation in non-credit programs. One CEU represents 10 contact hours. In order to receive CEUs, students must successfully complete course requirements according to the instructor’s standards. Students must request formal recognition of CEUs from the Office of Continuing Education using the CEU Request Form and pay a $15 processing fee per course.
Course Attendance
Attendance is taken at the start of all Continuing Education courses. You are still responsible for paying for a course if you do not attend and have not withdrawn by contacting the Office of Continuing Education within the Course Drop/Tuition Liability period for that course.
Requests for Drop/Withdrawal and/or Refunds for all Continuing Education courses (including all open enrollment, youth enrichment, international education and online ed2go) must be submitted by a student, a student’s significant other or a student’s legal guardian in one of the following ways:

All drop/withdrawal and refund requests must be received during regular business hours. Requests submitted after the office has closed for the day will not be processed until the following business day. The Office of Continuing Education is open from 8am till 4pm, Monday through Friday, excluding College holidays and closures. Students will receive confirmation of a drop/withdrawal and/or refund or remaining liability via mail.
All refunds will take the form of a check, made out to the student and may take up to 21 business days to be processed.

No refunds will be granted for non-attendance.
• If a student has not withdrawn from a course, he/she is liable for the course and material fees even if they opt not to attend.
• When materials and/or textbooks are distributed for a course, regardless of course length, students are liable for cost of those materials even if they withdraw from the course.
• All summer youth courses, ed2go courses and international education trips have their own withdrawal and student liability policies.
• Some courses have published registration and refund cutoff dates to ensure timely purchase of textbooks and/or course materials.
• Requests for special consideration for refund and/or bill adjustments can be made by filling out the Non-Credit Request for Refund/Bill Adjustment form.
• Students are not liable for any class and materials fees for any classes cancelled by the Office of Continuing Education and will be refunded fees paid.
• Payment is due at the time of registration. Non-payment may result in balance being turned over to a collection agency. All collection fees, including reasonable attorney fees, will be the responsibility of the student.
