Spirituality for the 21st Century — Reincarnation & Past Lives
April 22 to May 6
Wednesdays | 1 to 3 p.m. | Queensbury campus
Explore the research of psychiatrists, psychologists, doctors and scientists in the realm of spirituality. We look at near-death experiences, past lives, regression hypnosis, reincarnation, quantum physics and consciousness, children’s past lives, soul mates, etc. Explore questions including: Have you ever experienced “déjà vu” — that feeling you know someone you just met? Do you have unexplained pains, anxieties or phobias that do not respond to conventional treatments? Could you have lived before … and could your past life (or lives) be influencing your present life? Does “consciousness” pervade the universe? Are we all interconnected? Is there any reason to believe in “divinity”? Discover how children ages 2 through 6 provide some of the most compelling evidence for reincarnation, as well as how psychiatrists and psychologists can often cure unexplained fears and phobias via past-life regression therapy. Learn how past-life regression hypnosis reveals that soul mates enjoyed a relationship in one or more of their past lives. Experience stories that might change your life!

Will we see our animal friends, our pets? Are we judged and, if so, by whom? Is there a hell? What do we do as souls in the “interlife”? Will we learn the purpose of life? Will we “see” our creator? Do we plan our next lives? All these questions and others are explored in this intensive presentation based on case histories of past-life regression subjects who recalled their “life between life.” This multimedia presentation includes videos, course materials and a lively discussion.

The Heart: From Ancient Symbol to Everyday Object NEW!
Feb. 11
Wednesday | 6 to 8 p.m. | Queensbury campus
This class follows the heart symbol from its earliest pre-medieval roots to its place as one of the world’s most familiar emblems. Explore how the shape first appeared in ancient art and literature, how it came to stand for love and devotion in the Middle Ages, and how it later became woven into the rhythms of family, affection and everyday life. Special focus will be given to the 19th century, when the heart appeared in garments and household objects such as pincushions, and to World War II, when it carried powerful meaning in tokens of connection between soldiers and their loved ones. By tracing this history, the class will show how the heart became inseparable from the idea of love itself.

Patented Jan. 1, 1820, by Ithiel Town, an architect from Bridgeport, Connecticut, it was extensively promoted throughout the South. By 1840, it had become one of a few standard types chosen by local builders because of its ease of construction. The bridge was abandoned by the county in 1962 and sat in disrepair for more than 10 years until it was saved by Shushan Covered Bridge Association, which converted it into a museum.
A collection of period machinery and farm implements, many in working order, are used by visitors for hands-on demonstrations. A few yards from the bridge entrance stands a one-room schoolhouse that was in use from 1852 to 1943. The school is open to visitors and furnished with desks and texts from the 19th century.
