QUEENSBURY, New York (Aug. 12, 2025) — SUNY Adirondack is proud to announce three new majors beginning this fall: Environmental Science; Cybersecurity and Networking; and Liberal Arts and Sciences: Health Sciences.
All three degree programs are eligible for SUNY Reconnect, which offers free tuition and academic and career planning services to New York state residents ages 25 to 55 without a college degree.
“At SUNY Adirondack, we are committed to providing in-demand programs that meet the needs of our students and business community,” said Anastasia Urtz, J.D., president of SUNY Adirondack. “These degrees reflect our mission to prepare students to thrive in a rapidly changing world while supporting the economic and environmental vitality of our Adirondack Park and greater Capital Region.”
The Environmental Science degree, an Associate of Science (AS) transfer degree program, examines environmental issues, sustainability and the effects of climate change on the environment. The degree is designed for seamless transfer to bachelor's degree programs in Environmental Science at SUNY colleges and universities, and most credits are transferable to programs in biology, chemistry or environmental science.
SUNY Adirondack’s Cybersecurity and Networking program, a direct-to-career Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, emphasizes the importance of networking as a core component of cybersecurity, providing students with a strong base in hardware, cabling, network infrastructure and security fundamentals.
The Liberal Arts and Sciences: Health Sciences, an Associate in Science (AS) transfer degree program, supports students entering a range of health careers or pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Study anatomy and physiology, microbiology, nutrition and statistics, as well as SUNY General Education requirements. This degree, which is available at SUNY Adirondack Saratoga, also prepares students for successful application to various competitive-admissions health care-specialized programs.
These programs are enrolling students for the fall semester. Classes are offered at the college’s Queensbury campus, 640 Bay Road, and SUNY Adirondack Saratoga, 696 Route 9 in Wilton, with some courses available online.
“By launching Environmental Science, Cybersecurity and Networking, and Health Sciences, SUNY Adirondack is opening new pathways to family-supporting, in-demand careers,” Urtz said.
