Sophia Goldsmith was recruited to play soccer at SUNY Adirondack, but even after she hung up her jersey and earned a degree, the Albany native stayed.

“I started as a Media Arts major because I like photography,” she explained of the first degree she earned. “Then I moved on to Outdoor Education because, well, why not? I always loved the outdoors and the classes are interesting.”
Goldsmith works in the the Student Diversity and Engagement Initiatives office and helps out at the gym a lot. “We want to have Athletics work more closely with SEDI,” she said. “The gym is an untapped resource that isn’t being used as much as it should be.”
The former captain of the soccer team appreciates the importance of teamwork. “Outdoor Education, even though it’s one-person oriented, we typically do activities in a group and we have to work together,” she said.
Goldsmith appreciates time alone, too, and uses it to create. She loves photography and editing photographs, but also fell in love with digital art at SUNY Adirondack.
“Sometimes I just get the urge to draw and I’ll sit for hours drawing on my iPad,” she said.
She dreams of being an interior designer or working in equine therapy. “That’s just the way my brain works,” she said.
