Pathways to Technology (PTECH)

PTECH is a six-year program that gives high school students experiences, practical skills, qualifications and credentials to secure rewarding careers in technology-based industries. The Southern Adirondack PTECH is a partnership between high schools, Washington Saratoga Warren Hamilton Essex (WSWHE) BOCES, SUNY Adirondack and local industries.
PTECH students are incoming ninth-graders* who earn a high school Regents diploma and an associate degree from SUNY Adirondack at no cost to the family.
Students can choose one of two pathways in PTECH: Advanced Manufacturing or Information Technology: Cybersecurity and Networking.

The first two years, in ninth and 10th grades, students participate in after-school activities, summer camps, weekend bridge activities and Project Lead The Way (PLTW)/technology courses.

In 11th and 12th grades, students spend a half-day at their high school and the other half at SUNY Adirondack. They finish high school degree requirements by the end of the fourth year of the program, graduating on track with their class.

After graduating from high school, students attend SUNY Adirondack for years five and six to complete an associate degree that aligns with their program track.

Quotation

There is an emphasis in the program on showing you what work will be like. We saw manufacturing sites and how they run. It was decent exposure, especially to see if you do or don't like it; they weren't tying us down to the manufacturing world."
