farm sustainability

SUNY Adirondack is committed to sustainability. Learn about our campus wide efforts in reducing, reusing and recycling.

The Farm @SUNYADK:

  • Uses about 5,000 pounds of produce, coffee and egg shell scraps from the college's Culinary program, the dining hall and Eddy's Eats for composting each year, saving more than $800 in fertilizer costs;
  • Provides Culinary with as much produce as possible to incorporate into the curriculum and Seasoned menus each semester;
  • Operates as an organic farm, meaning we follow all the USDA National Organic Standards in food production, avoiding the use of industrial fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides;
  • Uses cultivation methods that are primarily human powered, which leads to an extremely low  carbon footprint;
  • Is a vegetable farm using solar powered photosynthesis, so our net carbon footprint is negative, meaning we consume more carbon than we produce
