QUEENSBURY, New York (June 1, 2026) — SUNY Adirondack’s Counseling division is proud to offer Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training in a workshop open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 16.

“Mental Health First Aid training empowers people to recognize when someone is struggling and respond with confidence, compassion and care,” said Beth Braxton, professor of Counseling and chair of SUNY Adirondack’s Counseling division. “These are valuable skills that extend far beyond the workplace, helping us build stronger connections and a more supportive community.”

This free training is an engaging, evidence-based program that equips participants with the skills to recognize signs of mental health or substance-use challenges, offer initial support and connect someone to appropriate resources. The training is practical, hands-on and designed for people in all roles.

Participants will:
•    Build confidence in responding to colleagues, students or community members in distress
•    Strengthen communication and de-escalation skills
•    Contribute to a more compassionate, supportive culture
•    Gain tools to use professionally and personally

A light breakfast and lunch are provided. Registration is required by June 10. To register, visit https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe5uynYpRvWpKKtACQ8ZKbjcyZEhuZM0JSskEURSBoXKTzp9g/viewform
