About the SUNY Transformation Grant: This grant funds the Front-End JavaScript Fundamentals course. Governor Hochul advanced The SUNY Transformation Fund to enhance student support services, support innovation, and help meet workforce needs.
About the Reimagine Grant: This grant funds the Quickbooks Microcomputer Applications, Advanced Bookkeeping Applications, Front-End Web Development and Python 2 courses. SUNY Adirondack’s Reimagine Grant provides free training opportunities for residents 18 years of age and older who were impacted by COVID and are seeking occupational skills training to launch a career or switch into a high-demand industry such as industrial manufacturing or health care. Included in the program are customized services based on participant need, such as success coaching and career services resources. The SUNY Reimagine Workforce Preparation Training Program is fully funded by the United States Department of Education as part of an award totaling $18,067,845.02, with 0 percent financed from state and/or non-governmental sources.

Career services are embedded into the courses and include academic and career support. An expanded, involved, advanced course in computerized accounting systems and applications using QuickBooks and microcomputers. Course coverage includes updating financial records, generating reports, tracking revenue and expenses, controlling and protecting data, file management, progress billing, processing receivables and payables, inventory maintenance, invoicing and time and payroll accounting.
A critique of the strengths and weaknesses of the major accounting software programs will be performed. Students will be eligible to take the QuickBooks certification exam offered by Intuit following completion of the course.
Prerequisite: Financial Accounting, or SUNY Adirondack BUS 146, or permission of instructor.

This course may be used to prepare for the National Certification Bookkeeper’s (NCB) certification exam. The NCB certification is a valuable credential for employment in the accounting and bookkeeping field.

Prepare yourself for the world of web applications. This course teaches the fundamentals of JavaScript, building a solid foundation to stand on before learning front-end web frameworks like React, Redux, Vue.js and Angular. Students will begin with the basics of programming using JavaScript. Learn how to solve algorithms with concepts such as callbacks, closures, high order functions and recursion. Following that, explore how to make applications come alive in the browser, how to communicate with a remote server and how to organize your code.

This 12-week course in front-end web development is structured around tutorials, assignments and individual and group projects to give students hands-on practice building the pieces of code that determine how an online experience feels and connects the user experience into the back-end processes. Through lectures and individual assignments, students will establish solid foundations in key tools of front-end developers: HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript and collaborative workplace/version control tools Git and GitHub. The latter part of the course features team-based portfolio-building projects for community organizations, giving students real-world experience in web design and development. This course may be of particular interest to graphic designers, as it teaches the technical skills necessary for UI (user interface) development and wire-framing. The course may also be attractive to beginning programmers with aspirations to create mobile applications, as it establishes foundations in JavaScript that support eventual progression into full-stack web development.

This course is designed for students with a fundamental understanding of programming in python. Students will learn fundamental data science concepts using the programming language Python, specifically as a tool for collecting, analyzing and visualizing data. Python is one of the world’s most popular programming languages, and more businesses are introducing Python into their work. The course will take students through the process of a data project from start to finish building from clean and processing a data set to delivering meaningful recommendations based on the students’ findings. Basic statistics will also be covered to help students interpret data, such as basic summary statistics and how to recognize common statistical distributions. All this will culminate in the analysis and visualization of real data sets of the students’ choosing. This course meets two evenings per week, three hours per session. Occasional labs outside of classes will provide further opportunities for mentoring and networking.
