Who we are

  • The Counseling Center is a mental health resource for enrolled students. Licensed mental health professionals provide free and confidential, short-term counseling support for students who are struggling with a variety of mental health challenges including anxiety, depression, stress management, identity development, relationship concerns and adjustment challenges.
  • The mission of the SUNY Adirondack Counseling Division is to provide accessible, compassionate and culturally responsive mental health services that support the well-being and academic success of our diverse student population. We are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive environment where students can develop the skills and resilience needed to thrive both academically and personally. Through personalized counseling, outreach and training, we aim to empower students to overcome challenges, achieve their goals and reach their full potential.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is an organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death. AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide, including those who have experienced a loss.

The Counseling Division is NOT a crisis response service, nor is it equipped to provide emergency care.

  • Available 24/7.
  • This is a nonprofit organization that provides free confidential support to “trans, non-binary, agender and gender questioning people.” This is the first transgender hotline to exist in the U.S. and Canada, and the first and only suicide hotline whose operators are all transgender.
  • This service is divested from the police, so the police will NOT be contacted as a result of your call.

  • Operated by the LGBT National Help Center, this hotline offers peer support to callers who are often isolated, sometimes still closeted and in need of a caring, nonjudgmental person to talk with.
  • The LGBT National Help Center also has more specific Hotlines for subgroups of queer people. This includes seniors and those who want to come out.

  • This organization is divested from the police, meaning the police will NOT be contacted as a result of your call.

Warmlines

These resources are offered for non-crisis situations

  • Call 888-407-4515.
  • This peer support line is answered by a trained peer supporter who has their own first-hand experience with psychiatric diagnosis, trauma, addiction, and/or other interrupting challenges. This line does not collect personal information, perform assessment, or call crisis or the police.
  • This can be used to get support, ask about resources, connect with another person who can relate or has been there, or just talk.
  • Available 7 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7 to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
