Visual Arts Gallery
The Visual Arts Gallery, located in Dearlove Hall since 1984, schedules a variety of exhibitions throughout the year that emphasize creativity, vision and imagination. Included are group and solo shows by artists of local,
national and international reputation. Each exhibition includes an informative and interpretive brochure. A juried exhibition of student art takes place at the end of the Spring semester.
The Visual Arts Gallery offers a chance for students to become exposed to works of artists from within, as well as outside, the Lower Adirondack and Capital regions. Receptions, musical performances, lectures and
formal dialogs provide opportunity to share ideas, opinions and responses that feed a sense of community and provide a link for the student to what lies beyond the academic life. The Visual Arts Gallery is open from
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday; and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
The SUNY Adirondack Collection
Look around the hallways, library and offices on campus, and you will find artistic inspiration.
The SUNY Adirondack Art Collection began in 1999 with a gift of 150 pieces from the estate of poet William Bronk of Hudson Falls and now has more than 1,000 works of art by more than 300 local, national and international artists. The diverse work represents artists from the United States, Canada, Cuba, Italy, Greece, France, Czech Republic, Japan and Russia. Artistic mediums include paintings, drawings, sculpture, prints, photography and mixed-media.
The collection also includes a selection of broadsides by selected American poets.
Fine Arts
SUNY Adirondack offers an Associate of Science degree in Fine Arts, half of which can be earned online. Students have the opportunity to study areas such as drawing, painting, two- and three-dimensional design, graphic arts, photography and art history. This is a program designed for transfer to a four-year college. Students benefit from small class sizes and dedicated faculty who are professional artists exhibiing locally and nationally. Students will also have the opportunity to exhibit in the Visual Arts Gallery and meet with visiting artists and faculty from four-year schools. Field trips to local galleries and museums, as well as to New York City and Boston, are available. Additionally, art-focused International Study trips to Europe and other areas abroad are offered. Media Arts
SUNY Adirondack offers an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Media Arts with courses on campus, online, synchronous zoom, hybrid and hyflex. Students have the opportunity to study the history and culture behind media arts and to lay the foundation for advanced courses across the spectrum of art, graphic design, photography, video, web design and cutting-edge software and equipment. This program is designed to prepare students for the workforce or transfer to a bachelor’s program.
Broadcast Media Production
SUNY offers an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Broadcast Media Production that prepares students for the workforce or transfer to a bachelor’s program. Students have the opportunity to study video editing, audio production, digital cinema production, TV news production, media writing and mass communication to create effective content for entertainment and to inform audiences across media platforms. Students obtain broadcasting experience on WGFR, SUNY Adirondack’s FM and streaming radio station.
